Hello
Welcome, you must be here to read more about the BALANCED Nutrition & Dietetics community!
Ok, so we're not really a community, but once I meet you, I consider looking after you just as I would a family member... I listen to you, I care about your health goals and respect that each of our lives are different and we all have our barriers and motivators.

My Story
Why a Dietitian?:
I remember the first time I became excited about nutrition. I was 15 or 16 and I was sitting in a lecture theatre at UniSA. I had come to the city to the Universities open day to hear about courses and pathways that Adelaide University and UniSA offered and to hopefully work out what direction was right for me. The lecturer from Nutrition and Food Science had me completely glued to my seat. They presented on the nutrition research that the school was a part of as well as interesting facts on foods. I still remember being blown away by the fact that '30-40g of tomato a day helps to thicken your skin against skin cancer'. I thought how cool it was that foods could have such an impact on our health and how each nutrient from our foods have unique roles throughout our body.
The hardest part about being a Dietitian:
Helping clients understand that changing your eating habits or food choices does not happen over night and that the benefits are not seen over night. It's important to look at health as a life long goal. If quick fixes, promised 8 week diets and online influencer programs worked, there wouldn't be soo many of them to choose from and Dietitians wouldn't be needed.
The most rewarding part about being a Dietitian:
Helping clients reach their health goals, whether thats improving their blood markers, energy levels, pain, bowel health or even their relationship with food. Hearing clients say 'I just feel better!' brings me endless joy.
What I enjoy outside of the office:
⭐️ Spending time with my young family.
⭐️ Playing and coaching netball, basketball and tennis.
⭐️ Being outside! Whether that's in the veggie garden, going for a run or caring for our animals.
⭐️ Experimental baking with gluten free sour dough (this one isn't going as well as I'd hoped...)
